I make the motion that we address and vote on proposition 1.A.1 concerning an increase in membership dues.
I was thinking the other day that we might want to think about increasing registration fees. Perhaps charge $10 per semester instead of per year. This way we double our funding without the shock-value of just asking for $20 for membership.
An increase in funds would serve a dual purpose of bringing in more money right before the symposium (which we'll need if we are going to expand) as well as providing extra money to pay for both issues of the PLA-WP.
Can we get a vote going on this?

So, I am definitely about more funding for PLA, but I'm also quite sympathetic to the broke college student lifestyle. So, raising dues is not a bad idea, but maybe a good compromise would be to make it $15 per year.
i can work on a compromise that's ok.
but i will say that this is only $10 we're talking about. buy 4 less cups of coffee in one semester and you come out even.
second, i want to stress the increased expenses we will be facing due to the PLA-WP and an extended symposium. the way i understand it, as of now, we don't gather the necessary funds to meet the goals we're setting for ourselves.
i'd rather pay a little more and keep up the great work we've been doing than sacrifice one of our goals.
I just wanted to add one thing: I think contributions to professional organizations are tax deductible - at least I claimed them back! So it's really no bigger expense, right?
wow do I sound cheap or what? no, it's not so much that I want to hang on to my other $5 or $10, especially if we need it to meet our goals, and we have some great goals. I'm just being the conservative/broke voice of the student body. I actually voted in favor of the increase.
sounds good to me
